Just like my English111 class, I really enjoyed this class because it allowed me to further develop my writing skills
specially in constructing an academic text. I also learned how to search on trusted resources or database and its significance
in making a credible and reliable essay. As a reader, it gave me a sense of appreciation to my classmate's ideas and learned
to respect their different points-of-view. And as a critical thinker, the class enabled me to read between the lines in realizing
the idea of the other author.
It also gave me an opportunity to bring out my creative side by expressing my thoughts and opinions using my own style
in contrast with my other subjects like Calculus, Engineering Statics, and other higher level math and science course which
requires nothing but logic and arithmetic proficiency. Somehow, taking an English course takes me back to my human side specially
when I was writing my first essay for the visual argument.
The visual argument essay was the most interesting writing that I did because it tested my comprehension in analyzing
the picture at a deeper context. Clearly, the photo that George Strock has captured about the second world war reminded
me about the grave reality that the world is currently facing. And that is the endless war in the middle east that only
causes more casualty and damage to the affected countries in the middle east. While I was doing it, I
could not help but be emotional in elaborating the different elements of the picture from the dead bodies, up
the the sunken ship as well as the different symbolisms in the picture because it seems that people never learn from past
mistakes. Sadly to say, I can only express frustration with the current crisis in the middle.
On the other hand, I quite struggled in doing the second essay because I somehow did not manage to clarify my focus completely
about rebellion and irresponsible parenting. Somehow, I was able to pull through the essay by reorganizing every paragraph
and using a more appropriate transitions phrases. Needless to say, I am very grateful for our teacher because she was very
open in clarifying our errors and at the same time giving me suggestions on how to revise my essay better.
